Berita Harian is one of the most popular newspapers in Malaysia, with a tradition of more than 50 years. The history of Berita Harian goes back to July 1, 1957, when the newspaper was founded. Since then, many things have changed. As the world evolved, Berita Harian developed as well. Berita Harian has suffered numerous changes, the main one being its transformation in the tabloid format, which happened in 2008. Until then, Berita Harian was printed in broadsheet format. Nevertheless, Berita Harian is a newspaper of great importance for the Malay people, who still enjoy reading it nowadays.
Some people say that newspapers are overrated and that, with the development of the Internet, they will soon vanish because they will no longer be read in the classic format. This conception could not be more far away from the truth, because most people will agree when I say that nothing compares to reading a great newspaper, like Berita Harian, while enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning before getting ready for work. And Berita Harian is exactly that kind of newspaper. Most people are already working in front of a computer, so why do the same thing when they are at home, too? Nevertheless, there will always be people who prefer the Internet versions over traditional formats. Especially for them, Berita Harian has released an online portal, as well. This also allows the Malay people to read Berita Harian whenever and wherever they want to.
In terms of style, Berita Harian is the equivalent of Daily News, so you can see how important it is for Malaysia. People can read news and information on mostly every topic in Berita Harian, but the most popular section is definitely the one about celebrities. Another interesting fact about Berita Harian is that its Sunday edition is called Berita Minggu and it sells even better than its sister newspaper. This proves what I was saying earlier, that people love reading a good old newspaper like Berita Harian, especially during the weekend. Unlike its biggest rival, Utusan Malaysia, Berita Harian has never been involved in scandals or controversies, so this newspaper still enjoys a great popularity.
